Professor Susan Kent of the history and women's studies departments has been named interim associate vice chancellor for faculty affairs at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The appointment was announced by Provost Phil DiStefano and is pending approval by Chancellor Richard Byyny.

Kent replaces Todd Gleeson, who was recently named interim dean of CU-Boulder's College of Arts and Sciences.

Kent earned her doctorate in comparative European history at Brandeis University in 1984. Her areas of specialization include the political, cultural and gender history of modern Britain.

Kent joined the faculty at CU-Boulder in 1993 as an associate professor in the history department and was appointed professor in 1996. She joined the women's studies department in 2001. She has a lengthy record of scholarly activity, including book and journal publications and numerous conference presentations.

She is a recipient of many honors and awards, including a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1993-94. Kent also was a member of the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1993-94.

In her role as associate vice chancellor for faculty affairs, Kent will focus on program review and faculty recruitment and retention. As chair of the vice chancellor's advisory committee, she also will oversee comprehensive review and promotion and tenure at the university level.

The Office of Faculty Affairs coordinates a variety of activities associated with faculty life and academic programming on the Boulder campus. It provides assistance to department chairs and deans throughout the recruitment, hiring and contract preparation process. The office also processes the appointment of faculty to administrative positions.
