The University of Colorado at Boulder Office of Community Affairs will host the closing ceremony for the Colorado leg of the "Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day," a national event to raise money for breast cancer research taking place in nine cities during summer 2001.

An estimated 8,000 people, including 3,000 walkers, will be on campus Sunday, Aug. 5, at 5:30 p.m. for the closing ceremony in Norlin Quadrangle.

Breast cancer survivors will lead the way into the quad where supporters and family members will welcome the walkers after their three-day, 60-mile journey to raise money for the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.

The walk starts in Fort Collins on Friday, Aug. 3, and goes through Loveland and Longmont on the way to Boulder. The participants are expected to begin arriving in the Norlin Quadrangle in the heart of the CU-Boulder campus on Sunday, Aug. 5, during the afternoon. Each walker raised a minimum of $1,900.

After arriving on campus, walkers will enter the Balch Fieldhouse where massages and medical assistance will be available before heading over to the quad.

Net proceeds generated by the event are disbursed through the Avon Products Foundation and are used to support cancer centers, medical centers, service organizations and breast health programs nationwide with a focus on medically underserved women.
