Robert L. Linn, distinguished professor of education at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been named president-elect of the 23,000-member American Educational Research Association (AERA).

Linn will begin a one-year term as president in the spring of 2002 following incumbent president Andrew Porter of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Professor Linn, who also serves as co-director of the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing, has focused his research on a wide range of issues concerning the use and misuse of educational assessments.

A former president of the National Council on Measurement in Education, Linn also has chaired the National Research Council's Board of Testing and Assessment. He is a member of the National Academy of Education, whose members are elected on the basis of outstanding scholarship or outstanding contributions to education.

AERA represents more than 23,000 international educators who conduct research and evaluation in the field of education. The majority of AERA members serve on college and university faculties, teaching students and conducting research. Other members fill key roles in school systems, federal, state and local agencies, foundations and the private sector.
