Incoming freshmen participating in the summer bridge programs at the University of Colorado at Boulder are wrapping up their studies this week with some showcase events.

Summer bridge programs help entering freshmen acquire skills needed for a more effective transition from high school to college. The Minority Arts and Sciences Program has 24 high school graduates enrolled at CU-Boulder participating in its summer bridge program that began June 17 and will end on Friday, July 20.

On Thursday, July 19, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Porter Biosciences room B121 there will be an exhibit to showcase the work and research that students have conducted over the summer. Two cohorts of students each chose an interdisciplinary project to work on.

Â鶹ÒùÔº in the humanities and social sciences cohort explored a case on land-rights struggles in southern Colorado, while students in the science and mathematics cohort focused on sickle cell anemia.

Each group will put on a short presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.

On Friday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. in MCD Biology Building room A2B70 the Multicultural Engineering Program Summer Bridge will join MASP for closing ceremonies. The MEP Summer Bridge program has 28 incoming freshmen participating this year.

The closing ceremonies will offer a good-natured and humorous look back on the summer. The ceremonies often include faculty and staff of MEP and MASP in a creative show highlighting the events and knowledge gained during the summer. Â鶹ÒùÔº also will receive awards for their dedicated work.
