Chancellor Richard L. Byyny has announced a title change and increase in responsibilities for Mary Jo ("Joey") White, long-time executive assistant to the chancellor.

Effective July 1, White will be Executive Assistant to the Chancellor and Chief of Staff. The change in title was approved by President Elizabeth Hoffman on May 17. The president uses the same model of organization in her office.

"This title change more accurately reflects the level of responsibility Joey has assumed as a result of the recent administrative reorganization of the University of Colorado at Boulder," Byyny said. "I am pleased to recognize her skills and contributions in making this change." As with other recent administrative reorganization changes, there was no change in salary except for the annual July 1 increase.

In her role as chief of staff, White serves as a member of the Chancellor's senior management team and coordinates the work of the Chancellor's Executive Committee (CEC) and the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors' Working Group (CVC). She is the principal point of contact with the chancellor for members of the administration, faculty, staff and students, President Hoffman's office and the regents office.

As executive assistant, White is responsible for the personnel, budget and general operations of the chancellor's office; represents the chancellor among various constituencies and at committees, councils and special events; helps to develop and implement campus policies and procedures; and researches and drafts briefs, reports and correspondence.

White has worked at CU-Boulder for 20 years and has served in the Office of the Chancellor since 1987. She earned a law degree from the CU School of Law in 1993 and a master's degree in counseling from the CU School of Education in 1978.
