The Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics' 10th Quadrennial Symposium is being held at the Raintree Plaza Hotel in Longmont through June 22.

More than 100 students and 260 scientists and researchers from around the world have gathered to discuss topics on solar-terrestrial physics and atmospheric science. They will hear from guest speakers and participate in tutorial lectures and poster sessions. The meeting began June 17.

Dan Baker, director of the University of Colorado at Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics and a member of SCOSTEP, will co-chair the June 18 summit titled "2001: A Space Science Odyssey." He also will present a session that will focus on the creation of trapped energetic particles in the magnetosphere, and the effects they have on spacecraft.

This year's symposium is being held in conjunction with the Coupling, Energetics and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions or CEDAR workshop.

SCOSTEP organizes and conducts international programs on solar-terrestrial physics. It works to develop student interest in the area while promoting communication and collaboration among scientists.
