Editors: Photographers are welcome to photograph the delivery of books to the Family Learning Center on Wednesday, April 25, at 10 a.m.

More than 1,350 new and used children's books collected in the "Bagel for a Book" drive, sponsored by the CU-Boulder Office of Community Affairs and Moe's Broadway Bagel, will find new homes this week at area schools, hospitals, shelters and education centers.

Moe's Boulder stores gave away free bagels and cream cheese for books donated in the weeklong drive, held from Feb. 26 to March 2, as part of the National Education Association's Read Across America Day on March 2.

Members of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity will deliver books to the children at the Family Learning Center on Wednesday, April 25, at 10 a.m. The center is located at 3164 34th St.

A number of books will be donated to local elementary schools participating in the "Books in Homes" program that provides books to more than 1,000 children who qualify for Title 1 government benefits. The Boulder Valley Title 1 elementary schools to get books include Aurora 7, Columbine, Emerald, Lafayette, Pioneer, Ryan, Sanchez K-2 and University Hill.

The Boulder Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Boulder Project will use some of the books for their "Readers for Leaders" program. Pioneer Elementary School in Lafayette will receive books to use in a new dual language Spanish and English Head Start pre-school program, which will start in the fall of 2001.

Other organizations to receive books are the San Juan People's Clinic in Boulder; Children's Hospital in Denver; Alternatives to Family Violence Shelter in Commerce City; Mountain States Children's Home in Longmont; and Dental Aid in Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont.
