A ranking of business programs in the Academy of Management Journal rated CU-Boulder's College of Business faculty 38th in the nation.

The study evaluated faculty research productivity in the premier academic journals.

"We are proud to be ranked with schools such as Carnegie Mellon, Penn State and Texas A&M," said business Dean Steven Manaster. "This ranking demonstrates our commitment to hiring top-quality faculty. Since this survey was conducted, we have attracted even more prominent professors. By hiring the best faculty, we can educate students on the most pressing issues in world business."

The ranking evaluated faculty from 431 universities throughout the nation. The criteria is different from popular rankings such as those conducted by U.S. News & World Report, some of which will be distributed this week, by focusing on the quality of professors rather than other factors.

The authors examined the number of pages published in 20 top-tier research journals between 1986 and 1998. Schools were not weighted according to size. CU's business faculty is smaller than many high-ranking universities, indicating that its relatively small faculty is more productive than those of some larger schools.
