In a great show of support for the successful return of CU's Trivia Bowl, Program Council has amended its original decision to cap team applications at 48 teams with eight alternates, allowing all 64 applying teams to compete in this year's bowl.
The 2001 Trivia Odyssey, April 2-6, will be a traditional single-elimination tournament.
"We were thrilled with the response of teams applying to play in the Trivia Bowl, and that strong response prompted us to expand the competition to allow 64 teams to participate," said JC Ancell, associate director of the University Memorial Center and senior adviser to the University of Colorado Student Union's Program Council.
The cap of 48 teams with eight alternates was originally established for this year's Trivia Bowl early on in the planning process. Because the Trivia Bowl had been dormant for eight years, it was difficult to assess interest, Ancell said.
"With the intention of keeping a student focus in this competition, we decided to initially go with 48 teams instead of 64," he said.
"We're really happy that interest in this year's bowl is so high," he said. "We're looking forward to a great bowl."
