Chancellor Richard L. Byyny will deliver the annual address on the status of women at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. in Old Main Chapel.

The chancellor will address some of the key issues contained in the Status of Women Report issued by the Chancellor's Committee on Women. He and committee members will take questions, comments and suggestions from the audience afterward.

The public is invited to attend the address and the reception in the Heritage Center immediately following.

According to Nina Molinaro, associate professor in the department of Spanish and Portuguese and co-chair of the committee, "CCW believes that, in order to effect change, the CU-Boulder administration must publicly express its commitment to continued progress on issues that affect women."

The most notable addition to the Status of Women Report 2000 involves the incorporation of qualitative data from several focus groups held during March 2000. In response to Chancellor Byyny's request for a broader and more meaningful qualitative sample from women across campus, a subcommittee of CCW gathered hours of testimony from staff, faculty and student women.

Key findings in the report, based on data collected from focus groups of women faculty, staff and students, include the following:

ß Although there are more women than men on campus, job segregation exists. Women are primarily in support positions, have less opportunity for promotions and earn lower salaries than men.

ß Policy decision-makers earning the highest salaries are predominantly male and the more authority associated with a position, the less likely a woman will hold it.

ß Undergraduate and graduate students are predominantly male, even though nationwide women comprise the majority of undergraduate students.

ß The findings are more acute for women of color.
