Noteworthy Graduates for CU-Boulder
Commencement December 2000
Marion Brew
Marion Brew will receive the Chancellor聮s Recognition Award during the winter 2000 commencement ceremony for receiving all A聮s during her college career. Brew, in her mid-40s, moved to the United States from Dublin, Ireland, in 1992 when her husband was transferred for his job. While living in Pennsylvania, she traveled to Israel to work on an archeological dig where one of the researchers happened to be from Boulder. After a visit to Boulder in 1996 she relocated and began classes in 1997. Brew will receive a bachelor聮s degree in classics and has been accepted into graduate school at CU-Boulder to pursue a master聮s degree in classics. She can be reached at (303) 545-9502.
Benjamin Patella
Benjamin Patella of Fort Collins will receive a bachelor聮s degree in electrical and computer engineering and a master聮s degree in electrical engineering as a student in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU-Boulder. Patella聮s master聮s thesis, dubbed the "Buffalo Switcher," may have a significant impact in the area of power electronics. His thesis involved designing a new digital voltage regulator circuit, which could replace the current analog technology. He also designed a second chip, which eventually will work with the "Buffalo Switcher," in wireless devices. Working together, the chips would create a new energy efficient integrated circuit for use in wireless devices. Patella can be reached at (303) 786-0468.
