Two open forums on the University of Colorado at Boulder's newest referendum, the honor code, will be presented Nov. 7 and Nov. 13 by the students who are proposing it.

The forums will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Recreation Center conference rooms 1-2, and on Monday, Nov. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Recreation Center conference rooms 3-4.

The town meeting formats are designed to attract both graduate and undergraduate students to discuss their feelings about the possible introduction of an honor code before they vote on the matter Nov. 14-16 via the Internet at .

The honor code is intended to instill an environment at CU-Boulder where students hold the responsibility for their own academic and personal achievements, while encouraging them to act with honor, integrity and respect.

In cases where intervention is necessary, a student panel will hear cases and issue sanctions, which could range from failure of an assignment to expulsion from the university.

The honor code deals solely with holding students accountable for their academic actions, and the honor council will not hear allegations of alcohol violations, abuse or assault.

The referendum will be passed or dismissed as a result of the Nov. 14-16 vote, even if the majority of students do not vote.
