Editors: Photographers are welcome to join the CU and ChildrenÂ’s Hospital representatives in the lobby of the hospital at 11 a.m. Chancellor Byyny and the athletes also will visit childrenÂ’s rooms on all three floors of the hospital.

Two hundred patients at ChildrenÂ’s Hospital in Denver will receive their own "Buffalo Hug" pillows on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when the CU-Boulder Chancellor, coaches and student athletes deliver the cuddly companions to ChildrenÂ’s Hospital President and CEO Doris J. Biester.

Chancellor Richard Byyny and the athletes will make the Buffalo Hugs delivery to ChildrenÂ’s Hospital patients at 11 a.m.

Each Buffalo Hug, designed exclusively for CU, is made of black and gold fleece and is embroidered with the CU Buffalo logo. The soft, cuddly pillows are appropriate for children 18 months and up and have been designed specifically for hugging.

"This program was designed to help make the sometimes frightening experience of being in the hospital a little easier," explains Kim Maciel of the CU-Boulder Office of Community Relations.

Delivery of the hugs to the ChildrenÂ’s Hospital kicks-off a local campaign to have additional Buffalo Hugs donated throughout the year to children across the metro area. "We have extended the Buffalo Hug program by asking CU faculty, staff and alumni to make donations to purchase even more hugs. And the CU Book Store is donating a portion of each hug sold toward the program," said Maciel.

The Buffalo Hug is an exclusive design of the Anybuddy, Hug in a Bag pillow, which was created by CU-Boulder alumna, Sheryl Cancellieri. The pillows are donated by the CU Departments of Licensing and Athletics.
