Richard Kraft, a University of Colorado at Boulder professor of education and director of the ChancellorÂ’s Leadership Residential Academic Program in Williams Village was recently honored with an international educator award.

Professor Kraft received the International Council on Education for TeachingÂ’s "Outstanding International Teacher Educator Frank H. Klassen Award" at the groupÂ’s annual meeting of 500 delegates in Windhoek, Republic of Namibia, in July.

"Dr. KraftÂ’s eminent background of leadership, scholarship and service to the promotion of excellence in international education is known throughout the world," said Darrell Bloom, executive director of the International Council on Education for Teaching. "ICET was very proud to honor him with the Frank H. Klassen award."

For the past 30 years, Kraft has worked on teacher education and curriculum reform programs throughout Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

Kraft and his wife Helen currently are heading an effort by CU-Boulder students, Boulder religious congregations, the Boulder County AIDS Project and interested individuals and community organizations to fund AIDS prevention programs and orphanages in Tanzania.

Kraft has been on the CU-Boulder faculty since 1968 as a professor in the School of Education. As director of the ChancellorÂ’s Leadership Residential Academic Program based in the Williams Village residence hall, his main interests are leadership, service and social justice. He also is designing the National Plan for Education in Nicaragua, and helping redesign secondary education in South Africa.
