The Council of Ministers of Galicia, Spain, has awarded CU-Boulder Professor Luis González-del-Valle the Silver Medal of Galicia.

González-del-Valle was recognized for his efforts in the field of Hispanic Studies in the United States and for his extensive research on the Galician writer Ramón del-Valle-Inclán. The prime minister of Galicia presented González-del-Valle with the Silver Medal on July 26 during the festival of St. James, the patron saint of Spain.

González-del-Valle joined CU-Boulder in 1986. He has written and edited 22 scholarly books and many articles. He is the executive secretary of the Twentieth Century Spanish Association of America, director of the Society of Spanish and Spanish-American Studies and general editor of Annals of Contemporary Spanish Literature.

In 1996 he received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Colorado chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. He currently is editing the sixth and final volume of Eugenio FloritÂ’s "Complete Works" and is continuing his research on Charles BaudelaireÂ’s presence in early 20th century Spanish literature.
