Executives from across the country are learning cutting-edge business strategies at CU-BoulderÂ’s Colorado Executive Development in Residence program, taking place through Aug. 4 at the College of Business.

Earl Frasier is finding material covered in the CEDIR course "Leading and Managing in Changing Times" applies directly to his role as regional customer service manager at Sun Microsystems.

"Right now, half of the members on my team at Sun are new," Frasier said. "We have different cultures that we have to merge into one cohesive team. Some of the techniques that weÂ’ve learned I can apply immediately."

"Accounting for Non-Financial Managers" is helping Diane Mathis, also a manager at Sun, understand the accounting principles that she puts into practice every day. "I have a lot of professional experience, but not a lot of educational experience," Mathis said. "These courses are really filling a lot of holes for me."

Award-winning CU professors are educating executives on recent changes in the business world, such as "Management of Technology and Innovation" and "Hiring and Retaining Critical Employees" as well as fundamentals such as "New Product/Service Development." Other classes include "Strategic Marketing Management," "Supply Chain Management" and "Business Strategy in the Internet Age." Classes are small, interactive and emphasize discussion and case studies.

The CEDIR program runs two weeks each summer for three consecutive years. This year, executives traveled from Arizona, Colorado, Florida, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia to participate.

"CEDIR is part of the College of BusinessÂ’s ongoing effort to partner with regional and national business communities," said Steven Manaster, dean of the College of Business. "As a result, members of those communities are leveraging the resources available here at CU."
