The Boulder Faculty Assembly at the University of Colorado at Boulder has announced the 11 recipients of its BFA Excellence Award for 1999-2000.
Each spring, the $3,000 award is given for excellence in teaching, excellence in service and for excellence in research, scholarly and creative work. Up to four recipients are awarded annually in each of the three categories.
"The Boulder Faculty Assembly has honored some of the top faculty on campus," said Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Philip DiStefano. "Many of these faculty members have achieved excellence in all three areas and their teaching, research and service benefit our students, our community and our state."
Chemical engineering Assistant Professor Kristi S. Anseth, English Assistant Professor Karen Jacobs, classics Assistant Professor Noel Lenski and geological sciences Instructor Alan Lester were awarded for excellence in teaching. They were nominated and selected by their colleagues for the award.
Astrophysical and planetary sciences Professor Mitchell Begelman, chemical engineering Professor Robert H. Davis and English Professor Suzanne Juhasz were awarded for excellence in research, scholarly and creative work. The recipients of this award were nominated and selected by their colleagues with an emphasis in areas like interdisciplinary research, work accomplished with undergraduate students and integrated long-term achievements.
Physics Professor John Cooper, mechanical engineering Professor John W. Daily, education Associate Professor William McGinley and East Asian languages
and civilizations Professor Laurel Rodd were awarded for excellence in service. They were nominated and selected by their colleagues for their exceptional service to the university, students, colleagues, Colorado residents or national professional organizations.
The Boulder Faculty Assembly formulates policy and makes recommendations to administrators and the Board of Regents regarding matters of concern to the faculty.
