Three University of Colorado at Boulder faculty members have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Professor Noel Clark of physics was elected an AAAS fellow for his innovative experimental studies of order and disorder in condensed matter, particularly liquid crystals and colloids.
Professor David Walba of chemistry and biochemistry was elected a fellow for his outstanding contributions in the areas of organic stereochemistry and liquid crystals.
Professor John Werner of psychology was elected a fellow for his research excellence on human color vision, aging and development.
Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world's largest federation of scientists and has more than 143,000 individual members. AAAS members nominated for the rank of fellow are elected by the AAAS Council, the policymaking board of the association.
A total of 283 members from across the nation were named AAAS fellows in 1999. The fellows were singled out for their work on behalf of the advancement of science.
Clark, Walba and Werner were presented with certificates at a special ceremony during the annual AAAS meeting this year in Washington, D.C.
