A distinguished panel of scholars will discuss the new book by CU-Boulder assistant history Professor Susan Johnson, "Roaring Camp: The Social World of the California Gold Rush," on Thursday, April 6, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Memorial Center room 235.
The event is free and open to the public.
In addition to Johnson, the panelists will include Nan Boyd, assistant professor of women's studies at CU-Boulder; Patricia Limerick, professor of history at CU-Boulder; and Duane Smith, professor of history at Fort Lewis College in Durango.
The scholars will discuss Johnson's original and fascinating look into the world of mining and mining camps.
"With an approach so fresh and a style so lively, Johnson's book may be the best testimony available to the good health of the field of Western American history," Limerick said. "In addition, mining history, the history of sexuality and gender, the history of race and ethnicity, and even frontier history, are equally enriched by this book."
