Ross B. Corotis, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU-Boulder, has been appointed to the Board on Assessment charged with reviewing National Institute of Standards and Technology laboratories and programs.
He is one of six members at large on the board.
The Board on Assessment of NIST Programs is a body of the National Research Council and has provided independent peer review of NIST programs since 1959. The board is composed of the chairs and vice-chairs of seven panels that oversee each of NIST聮s major laboratories plus six at-large members, all of whom are appointed by the National Research Council following public review.
A professor of civil engineering with a background in structural mechanics and stochastic vibrations, Corotis has been dean of the engineering college at CU-Boulder since 1994. His innovations in engineering education have led to construction of the college聮s highly acclaimed Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory and this year聮s groundbreaking for the Discovery Learning Center.
Corotis received his undergraduate and graduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was on the faculties of Northwestern and Johns Hopkins universities before coming to CU-Boulder.
He also is an elected member of the Executive Board of the Engineering Deans Council, an organization of the American Society for Engineering Education representing the more than 300 engineering colleges throughout the United States.
