EDITORS: A complete CU Moving Company performance schedule for Lakewood, Lafayette, Niwot, Boulder, Salida and Denver is attached.

The CU Moving Company, a dance group of six undergraduate dance majors from the University of Colorado at Boulder, has started its spring performances and workshops to educate and entertain school-age audiences.

"The purpose is to supplement the arts in the schools," said David Capps, CU-Boulder assistant dance professor who instructs the group. "We'd like to bring dance in as a vital art form."

The CU Moving Company is touring several Colorado schools and community centers with a program of informal performances, master classes and lecture demonstrations tailored to each audience's interests, needs and facilities. Audience size and age group, existing programs in the schools and available venues determine which of the seven separate dances and demonstrations of dance training exercises, choreographic techniques and teaching formats will be used.

Performances this year include a jazz dance and a variety of modern dances choreographed by established dance artists, professors and students. Music accompaniments range from Louis Armstrong to Chopin to Japanese Taiko drumming.

Â鶹ÒùÔº are required to perform with the group as a part of their coursework for the "Touring Theatre Dance" class. "It's an opportunity for the students to hone their performance skills," Capps said. "It's an enriching experience as part of their curriculum."

The CU Moving Company has already performed at Majestic Heights Elementary in Boulder and at Wheat Ridge High School. The next presentation will be for students at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood on Friday, March 10, with classroom-sized performances at 7:45 a.m., 8:45 a.m. and 9:40 a.m.
