The University of Colorado at Boulder will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit April 17-19 by a team representing the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Evaluations for NCA accreditation occur every 10 years. CU-Boulder has been accredited by the commission since 1913.

In preparation for the visit, the Boulder campus has conducted a self-study under the direction of a campus committee appointed two years ago by Chancellor Richard L. Byyny. Chair of the committee is William Kaempfer, associate vice chancellor for budget and finance in the Division of Academic Affairs.

"We look forward to the visit by the evaluating team, which consists of 14 outstanding leaders in higher education around the country," Kaempfer said. "They will be visiting with a broad range of campus community members and constituencies in order to gain a comprehensive view of CU-BoulderÂ’s programs and plans."

As part of the reaccreditation process, the public is invited to submit comments regarding CU-Boulder directly to the evaluating team, Kaempfer said. Comments should be mailed to:

All comments must be written and signed. They will not be treated as confidential and should include the name, address and telephone number of the person providing the information.

All comments must be received by March 15. The commission cannot guarantee that those received after March 15 will be considered.

The Commission on Institutions of Higher Education is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis. Institutional accreditation evaluates an entire institution and accredits it as a whole. Other agencies provide accreditation for specific programs.

The commission is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
