A 14-member search committee has been named to seek a replacement for Willard "Wick" Rowland, former dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Rowland recently resigned the dean's position and is on a leave of absence from the faculty to take an appointment as president and general manager of public television station KBDI in Denver.
Stewart Hoover, professor of journalism and mass communication, is currently serving as interim dean of the school.
The committee, chaired by Todd Gleeson, associate vice chancellor for faculty affairs, will begin with a national search that will include internal candidates. The committee's goal is to hire a new dean for the school by Sept. 1, 2000.
Bernadette Langbein, assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, will staff the search committee and Garnett Tatum, director of the department of Equal Opportunity, will serve as ex-officio member.
The journalism school is one of only two accredited programs in its field in Colorado, and is the only one in the state to offer a full, integrated range of undergraduate and graduate studies.
