Â鶹ÒùÔº in the College of Engineering and Applied Science will apply their design skills and engineering know-how for sheer fun as they compete in the annual College Egg Drop and Design Expo, highlights of Engineering Days 1999 at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Engineering Days is a weeklong event organized by students each spring, combining community service, engineering and fun activities. Throughout the week, the University of Colorado Engineering Council will solicit old computers from area companies to be donated to community users through the CU Office of Community Relations.

Engineering Days 1999 will begin Sunday, April 25, and run through Saturday, May 1. Scheduled events are listed below. For more information, call the Engineering Council at (303) 492-7475.

Sunday, April 25

Car Show - Showcasing classic cars, power cars and concept cars from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Observatory Field located on Regent Drive across the street from Sommers-Bausch Observatory. Sponsor is the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Monday, April 26

Opening Ceremonies - Features an a cappella concert by "In the Buff" from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Math 100 Auditorium. Sponsor is the University of Colorado Engineering Council. Â鶹ÒùÔº are encouraged to bring a canned food item to be donated to Community Food Share as the price of admission.

Wednesday April 28

College Egg Drop - Â鶹ÒùÔº must design and build a contraption to make an egg survive a seven-story drop. Prizes are awarded for the best designs for the event, from noon to 1 p.m. at the base of the Engineering Tower. Sponsors are the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the professional engineering fraternity Theta Tau.

Friday April 30

Engineering Olympics Carnival - Featuring a barbecue, dunk tank and model rocket competition where students design, build and launch their own model rocket from noon to 4 p.m. in the Engineering Quad. Sponsors are the 26 professional engineering societies and honor societies on campus.

Saturday May 1

Design Expo - Featuring more than 50 student design projects, several Rube Goldberg contraptions, chaos toys and computer software from noon to 3 p.m. at the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory. Sponsor is the University of Colorado Engineering Council.
