CU-Boulder's Norlin Library will host a visual and literary arts open house in conjunction with the Center for the Humanities and the Arts from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, featuring actor, teacher, poet and playwright Chuck Wilcox.

Wilcox will read from Shakespeare as part of the program, which also includes readings and commentaries by the poets and artists featured in the currently running exhibit, "The Beast: Beauty," in Norlin's third floor gallery.

The reception featuring Wilcox will be in the Center for British Studies on the fifth floor of Norlin.

The CU Friends of the Libraries, the Daily Camera and the Center for the Humanities and the Arts are sponsoring the open house as the second of four events this fall to acquaint area residents with the University Libraries. The first program in early October featured a talk on "Life in the New West" by geography Professor Bill Riebsame.

A familiar campus figure during the Colorado Shakespeare Festival every summer, Wilcox performs each evening of the festival "On the Green" as William Shakespeare.

Wilcox came to the Colorado Shakespeare Festival in 1971 and after earning his master's degree from CU-Boulder's theater and dance department, served on the theater faculty for one year. He taught one tour of Semester at Sea while a CU faculty member.

Wilcox also has participated in CSF's two community outreach programs -- Will Power and Living Shakespeare. The programs are designed to make Shakespeare accessible to children through appearances in public schools throughout the state.

In addition to his ongoing role as Will Shakespeare, Wilcox performs in one CSF play each season. He currently is teaching drama at St. Mary's Academy in Denver, working on several scripts and preparing for his annual tour in Wyoming.

The "Beast" exhibit, running through November at Norlin Library, features works of prose and poetry mounted on handmade paper. It can be viewed in the Third Floor Gallery outside the Special Collections and in the East and West Lobby display cases in Norlin.

Two additional programs, planned as part of the open house series, include an evening of music with Juli Steinhauer and Wayne Scott combined with tours of the Music Library on Feb. 10. and a program, to be announced, at the Business Library on March 10.

Free parking is available for the open house in lot 360. Parking attendants will be at this reserved lot from 6:20 p.m. to 8 p.m.
