Colloquium on the "Art of Translation" with Ringu Tulku on Nov. 11th

We are delighted to host a graduate colloquium for students of the Tibetan language with Ringu Tulku on the "Art of Translation." We'll be discussing issues of fidelity in translation, whether to prioritize the literal, the meaning, or the literary qualities of a text as well as the implications of domesticating vs. foreignizing translations. The colloquium will take place at Koenig Alumni Center at 11am on Wednesday, November 11th.

Ringu Tulku is the abbot of Rigul Monastery in eastern Tibet, head of Bodhicharya International, and lead translator for the Seventeenth Karmapa. Awarded the Acharya Degree from Sampurnananda Sanskrit University in Varanasi in 1973 and author of numerous books on Buddhist doctrine and philosophy, Ringu Tulku will bring his enormous experience with Tibetan texts and translation to enrich our conversation on the "Art of Translation."
