When Deric McNish came to CU Boulder’s PhD program in Theatre & Performance Studies he was given his first teaching position in an Acting for Non-Majors course. His experience in the classroom inspired his dissertation topic, training methods for student-actors with disabilities in college courses, after he discovered how few available resources there were on the subject.

After obtaining his doctorate, Deric began working as an Associate Professor at Michigan State University’s Department of Theatre in 2013. There he developed a course for Disability and Performance, wrote a chapter for New Directions and Teaching Theatre Art, and has used theatre in courses as a way of teaching English, increasing fluency in the language, and promoting self-confidence.

He currently runs the BFA acting program at Michigan State, is transitioning towards becoming the Graduate Program Director, and as of July of 2021, has acquired tenure. He now intends to use this new position to plan his next steps to carry his work forward into the worlds of English Language Learning and Disability in Performance.

Bonnie Cox received her MFA in Dance at The University of Colorado Boulder in Spring 2018. She was nominated for an Austin Chronicle critic’s choice award for her production Silence to Power: Dance as a response to trauma, through which she encouraged dance artists to transform trauma and societal pressures into growth and power through performance and choreography.

Marsha (Tardy) Barsky- MFA, University of Colorado Boulder (2003), Marsha Barsky, Assistant Professor, teaches courses in contemporary dance, choreography, the Alexander Technique, and dance studies. Barsky serves as the Director of Dance at MTSU, and as the artistic director for the MTSU Dance Theatre. Barsky developed MTSU's Bachelor’s of Science degree program, the first of its kind in Tennessee.

Angie Simmons is a Visting Artist at The University of Southern Mississippi for AY 15-16.

She holds an M.F.A. in dance choreography from the University of Colorado-Boulder, with an emphasis in the Alexander Technique, and a B.S. in secondary dance education from Illinois State University.

Simmons is former modern faculty for Longmont Dance Theatre Academy’s Pre-Professional Training Program and was adjunct dance faculty at Red Rocks Community College in Denver, Colorado. She has taught at various Denver metro studios and schools, been a company instructor for 3rd Law Dance/Theatre, and worked with arts in public school programs in Chicago and Minneapolis. Angie served as a resident guest artist in 2012 at Middle Tennessee State University, teaching and setting choreographic work focused on diversity, as well as a 2010 guest artist at Iowa State University. As Program Director and faculty, Simmons founded RHS Modern Dance Company, a collaborative arts outlet for Minnesota high school students.

Simmons is the Artistic Director/choreographer/founder of Evolving Doors Dance, a contemporary modern company founded in 2006. The company is known in Colorado for politically charged, evening-length works. It recently premiered new work while completing its first tour of the midwest and will present this work in Colorado in October. Angie has been granted by Colorado’s Neodata Endowment Fellowship, the Boulder Arts Commission, and the Colorado Open Door Foundation. She has choreographed, taught and performed in New York, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, and throughout the midwest. Simmons has performed professionally with Isis Movement Company and Tribe of Human in New York and Cindy Brandle Dance, 3rd Law Dance/Theatre and Louder Than Words Dancetheatre in Colorado. Angie has also worked on individual projects with Maedée Dupree, Tom Evert, Jon DeMone, Doug Woods, David Dorfman, Toby Hankin, Nada Diachenko, Megan Flood, Nick Cave/William Gill, and various works with USM alumni Gabe Masson.

Stephen Schroeder has performed with Zenon Dance Company since 2001, with ARENA Dances, Minnesota Dance Theatre, TU Dance, Nautilus Music Theater and the Minnesota Opera. In addition, he currently acts as Zenon’s technical coordinator and was recently awarded the 2012 McKnight Artist Fellowship for $25,000.
