Beth Osnes & Marcos Steuernagel attend Consortium for Doctoral Programs

CU Theatre professors Beth Osnes and Marcos Steuernagel recently attended the Consortium for Doctoral Programs in Theatre and Performance Studies at Tufts University in Boston from Oct. 5-6, 2018. In attendance were 30 Directors of PhD programs from the US, Canada and the UK. We came together to engage in a conversation of how to best support our graduate students and prepare them for a vibrant future. At Tufts, Noe Montez and Heather Nathans presented on the state of the academic job market and contingent faculty in Theatre and Performance Studies, based on research they conducted on US PhD graduates from 2011-2017. Much attention was given to various ways of supporting our students for opportunities beyond the academy. Our collective care for the state of our field in this collaborative Consortium was remarkable. We have the vision of Esther Kim Lee, founder of this initiative, to thank for this cooperative approach, as well as our own Bud Coleman, who organized the gathering in 2015. If you would like to know why there is an elephant in the photo, you’ll need to visit Tufts and take the campus tour.
