Changes to Summer Session 2020 in Response to COVID-19

In light of guidance around COVID-19, Summer Session courses will only be offered in either an online, remote or hybrid remote/online teaching format.

Online, Remote or Hybrid Remote/Online Formats

The Office of the Registrar created new instruction modes of remote or hybrid remote/online to designate impacted summer courses originally offered in an in-person format. These designations will help you understand the delivery method of the classes in which you have enrolled or plan to enroll since they will no longer be face-to-face. There is an instruction mode for each class offered in . Either review the class section details or filter classes by “Instruction Mode.”

Online

Classes offered as "online" in the course search will be taught in an online delivery mode and are delivered asynchronously, which means you can complete the coursework throughout the week when it is convenient for you. There will be no scheduled class meetings.

Remote

"Remote" classes were originally designed to be taught in-person. Similar to the way Spring 2020 in-person classes were modified due to the impact of COVID-19, remote summer course content will be delivered synchronously—during the scheduled days and times—in any of the following ways:

  • Zoom
  • Canvas
  • Lecture capture

Hybrid Remote/Online

Classes designated as "hybrid remote/online" will be taught using a combination of online and remote instruction modes. This means that while some coursework may be completed online at your own pace (asynchronously), the class will also meet remotely at designated days/times each week. CU Boulder Class Search will detail the remote meeting schedule for each hybrid remote/online section. These classes may be delivered using Canvas or other instructional technologies.

Student Resources

To accommodate the new teaching and learning formats, the instruction mode on some summer classes may be adjusted. Instructors have until May 1 to make any instruction mode changes to Maymester classes and until May 15 to modify other summer classes. If students have already registered for one or more Summer Session classes, please review your schedule to stay informed of class delivery mode and remote meeting expectations.

Completing summer courses is key to many students who may be trying to catch up, stay on track, get ahead, or graduate. We encourage you to contact your academic advisor for guidance on how summer classes may help you stay on track to graduation.
