Buffs, take time to explore and develop connections

Dr. Mull
Hi Buffs,

We are about three weeks into the fall semester, and I hope you are doing well and enjoying the start of the new year. It is starting to feel a little more like fall in Boulder, but right now you are also still getting the benefits of warmer temperatures (I will take that combination any day). There are many great outdoor study spots on campus, including the University Memorial Center (UMC) rooftop patio, Center for Community (C4C) patio and Village Center Dining rooftop patios. With midterms starting soon, I encourage you to take advantage of the nice days and opportunities to study outside in the fresh air.

I imagine you have seen plenty of Buff pride already and I am thrilled that there is even more to come over the semester. This is a fantastic time to continue developing your connections to the CU Boulder community. We hope you take advantage of our incredible resources such as the Volunteer Resource Center and our Center for Student Involvement where you will find opportunities to meet new Buffs, get involved in meaningful service, and create long-lasting relationships. I know there are many who are looking ahead and considering your internship, graduate school or career options. We hope you take advantage of our premiere Career Services department. Our team is focused on helping you learn more about yourself and assisting you determine your ideal career or academic pathway.

Adjusting to new routines may take time as you normalize new ways of being. Whether you are in your first or final year, starting a new fall semester always brings change—and it can take time for us to adjust. The Division of Student Affairs is here to support you with whatever you may be dealing with—whether it is making friends and finding community, finding productive things to do in your free time or planning your future. You are not alone, and I hope you will reach out and use the resources and services available to you.

I encourage you to give yourselves grace as you navigate the transition of starting a new school year. We want you to take time to explore, consider your interests and goals, and figure out what will work best for you this semester. During moments of change and transition, it can also help to lean on your community. Stay in touch with friends, family and networks back home, and continue to put yourself out there to meet new people and expand your social circle here at CU Boulder.

Remember, I am here for you and Student Affairs is here to support you. You can email me at studentaffairs@colorado.edu with any questions or concerns. If you feel like you might need help but are not sure where to go, please reach out and we can help point you in the right direction.

Take care of yourselves, Buffs!

Warmly,
Dr. D’Andra Mull
