Years of Service Ceremony Honors Long-Serving Staff
In February, CU Boulder Staff Council hosted its annual Years of Service event. The event, hosted by Staff Council since 1977, honored nearly 200 staff members who achieved a milestone of serving 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years during the 2017-18 fiscal year. These long-serving members of the Boulder campus staff were invited to bring a guest and join Chancellor Philip DiStefano, members of Staff Council and university leadership to be honored for their service to campus.
Staff honored at the ceremony are also presented with a University of Colorado pin commemorating their years of service and had the opportunity to take a photo with Chancellor DiStefano.
Vice Chair of Staff Council and Chair of Awards and Staff Recognition (ASR) Committee Shelby Javernick served as the emcee and started by welcoming everyone, “This is to recognize the hard work and dedication you’ve put in to our university,” Javernick said. “I can speak for all newer staff members on campus when I say, ‘we stand on the shoulders of giants,’ thank you for making this university such an amazing place to work.”
In his remarks, Chancellor DiStefano said that staff is the foundation and the building blocks of all that we have accomplished and all that we will accomplish.
“One of my top priorities is to focus on ways we can help students succeed at CU Boulder." DiStefano said. “Staff is vital to that in many ways: in safety, advising, mentoring, financial aid, student support programs, health services, recreational opportunities, student employment, career development…in so many ways too numerous to mention. Staff is also integral to one of the most important initiatives we have ever taken on...advancing inclusive excellence on campus so that everyone here feels welcome.”
