Project Description
The Quantum Sensors Group designs, fabricates, and tests superconducting sensors and readout circuits. These circuits will be used for terrestrial materials analysis, fundamental parameters determination, nuclear safeguards, and astrophysics. One crucial role of the Quantum Sensors Group is the fabrication of transition-edge sensor (TES) x-ray and gamma-ray sensors. Key TES performance metrics are energy resolution, speed, quantum efficiency, array yield, and array uniformity. Through the development of innovative fabrication processes, performance metrics are improved which allow for the optimization of critical NIST applications.
