If your student plans to move out of their residence soon, this is a great time to prepare. Whether they live on or off campus, here are some tips and reminders to share with them as they wrap up the end of the year.Ìý

Transport itemsÌý

If your student plans to visit home before the end of the semester, you can encourage them to bring items with them so they have less to move at the end of the semester.Ìý

Your student can also set up shipping service through the UPS locations at CU Boulder.ÌýÌý

Donate itemsÌýÌý

Your student may have items they no longer need or want as they prepare to move out. Donating these things means they will have less to move, and they can give the items a second life.Ìý

If your student lives on campus, they can participate in the Give and Go Donation Drive. Donation locations are available in the residence halls through Thursday, May 9.
Â鶹ÒùÔº can donate the following items at these locations:Ìý

• Unopened non-perishable foodsÌý

Soft goods, such as bedding, pillows, towels, etc., cannot be collected.ÌýÌý

If your student lives on or off campus, there are also many locations in Boulder where they can donate items. Wherever they choose to donate, they should only drop off items that are usable and in good working condition.Ìý

Store itemsÌý

It may feel easier to throw items out or donate them, but your student has another option. The UPS Store at CU Boulder for students living on and off campus.ÌýÌý

The service is simple and affordable, and students can choose customized storage solutions. For the basic storage program, they can pick up a box at the on-campus UPS Store and return it with the items inside. They can also store larger and specialty items through this program.Ìý

Donate or store bikesÌý

If your student no longer needs their bike, they can donate it at the Folsom and TLC bike stations. Bikes will be refurbished and sold at the annual fall Bike Sale.ÌýÌý

The CU Bike Program can also store your student’s bike for $20 over the summer. Storage is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Your student can stop by the TLC bike station from May 6 to May 9, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, to store their bike. Learn more about summer bike storage.Ìý

Bikes left on campus that appear abandoned will be flagged and removed starting in May.Ìý

Properly dispose of hard-to-recycle and hazardous materialsÌý

When moving out, your student may have items they can’t throw away or donate, including electronics, cleaning products or fluorescent bulbs. Here are some tips for taking care of hard-to-recycle and hazardous items:Ìý

• If students need to dispose of vape or other hazardous tobacco products, designated vape disposal locations are available in the UMC and the Village Center.Ìý
• It is illegal in Colorado to throw away electronics in a dumpster. Â鶹ÒùÔº can donate electronics in usable condition at a thrift store. Electronics not in usable condition can be recycled at Eco-Cycle’s , or .Ìý
• Â鶹ÒùÔº can visit the Environmental Center website for more options for disposing of hard-to-recycle items, including cell phones, batteries, toner cartridges, etc.Ìý
• Common household hazardous waste products include fluorescent bulbs, home cleaning products, home maintenance products, motor oil, antifreeze, paint and yard and garden care products. Your student can learn more about how to pose of hazardous waste products.Ìý
• Â鶹ÒùÔº can dispose of expired and unwanted medications at the take-back box on the main floor lobby of the Parking Services and Police Department building.Ìý
