College is a time when many students learn more about themselves. It’s a time to meet new people, try new things and discover new ways to grow. The Center for Inclusion and Social Change (CISC) provides a supportive space for students across multiple identities. CISC also offers resources for students who care about social justice and activism to find opportunities for community-based learning and social action.Ìý

The gathering spaceÌý

Â鶹ÒùÔº looking for a place on campus to meet up with a classmate or to study can visit the gathering space. Located in the Center for Community (C4C), N320, students can stop by Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to hang out, study, relax and build community.Ìý

The gathering space offers students the use of a student lounge, the ‘self-care’ table and free printing. Â鶹ÒùÔº may also pick up free menstrual and safer sex supplies in a welcoming and inclusive space.Ìý

Whether students want to connect with fellow Buffs or learn new skills, the center is proud to support diverse events and programs. All students are invited to be themselves and participate. The events aim to create an inclusive environment where students of all identities can find community.Ìý

• Community gatherings – Hosted monthly, the gatherings include informal events to celebrate Latinx and AAPI communities.Ìý
• Kitchen Table - These monthly gatherings bring together students identifying as women of color working their way through a predominantly white university.Ìý
• – The Pride Office hosts weekly events where LGBTQ+ students can gather, have fun and meet new people.ÌýÌý
• Story Circle – Derived from Indigenous cultures, the story circles introduce dialogue skills and strategies to promote effective conversations across different identities and experiences. Participants will share stories and listen deeply to other storytellers.Ìý
• National First-Generation Celebration Week – CISC will celebrate first-generation college students on Nov. 8.Ìý

Participate in workshopsÌý

The Education & Social Change Office hosts workshops facilitated by CISC professional staff or peer educators. All workshops are designed for undergraduate students.Ìý

Build communityÌý

A sense of belonging matters for the success of every college student, but students from underrepresented backgrounds and identities significantly benefit from connection and community. In fact, data shows students who are involved on campus and have positive peer relationships demonstrate better academic performance and improved mental health.ÌýÌý
