The CU Boulder Buy Local program goal is to connect local-, women-, and minority-owned businesses with the University of Colorado Boulder faculty, staff, and students to meet the university's needs for purchasing goods and services. By including and supporting local businesses in our supply chain, we create opportunity, promote innovation, and stimulate the community's economic vitality.

Frequently Asked Questions
CU Boulder may list your business on the website after a review of your application. Please allow 2-4 weeks for our team to review your form.
University staff will reach out to your main business contact to learn more about service(s) and/or product(s) to assist with the promotion of goods. We will also gather information about past/current work with CU or learn about any challenges or issues that have limited your work with CU. The university is committed to helping your business succeed, and your input will help strengthen this program.
University departments and offices will be informed about your business and encouraged to reach out about your product(s) or service(s).
Your information will be used to determine your eligibility and if approved will be added to a campus website highlighting local businesses as well as women-owned and minority-owned businesses.
Information may be posted on a public website that is available to CU faculty, staff, students, and potentially other members of the public as well.
While all Colorado businesses qualify, this initiative focused on local businesses owned and operated within Boulder County.
This program does not include businesses that predominantly sell prepackaged alcohol, drugs, and/or related products not approved by university purchasing parameters.

A Small Disadvantaged Business must be a minimum of 51% owned, controlled, and operated day-to-day by one or more socially disadvantaged individuals. Qualification criteria follows 13 CFR part 121.
Small Disadvantaged Ethnicity definitions include the following categories: African American, Hispanic American, Native American (American Indian, Eskimo, Aleut, Native Hawaiian), Asian-Pacific American, Asian-Indian American.
The SBA defines HUB Zones as areas that have high unemployment, low median household incomes, or both. The SBA maintains maps of HUB Zones. In addition to meeting the SBA Small Business Requirements, the principal offices of HUB Zone Businesses must be located in HUB Zones and 35% of a HUB Zone Business' employees must reside in a HUB Zone.
