Workshop: High-Impact Changes in Federal Proposals and New Pending Resource
Time to get ahead of upcoming changes in federal proposals! The Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) will be offering two workshops addressing the following three high-impact changes that will affect researchers applying for federal funding:
- NIH Changes – ORCID ID
- NSF Changes – SciENcv Biosketches
- OCG Current and Pending Master List
NIH Changes - ORCID ID
Beginning October 2019, an for trainees, scholars, and participants supported by institutional research training, career development, and research education awards that require appointments through the xTrain system.
In 2020, NIH will require Principal Investigators (PIs) applying to fellowship or career programs to be registered with ORCID and to include their ORCID ID in submissions. All PIs are encouraged to create and link ORCID IDs to their eRA Commons account.
An ORCID ID is a unique digital identifier that creates linkages between researchers and their professional activities. OCG’s workshop will provide detailed instructions on how to sign-up and use your ORCID ID.
NSF Changes - SciENcv Biosketches
Beginning with the next iteration of the PAPPG (anticipated effective date, January 2020), the National Science Foundation (NSF) will only accept PDFs for biographical sketches generated through the use of an NSF-approved format. To date, the only biosketch generator NSF has approved is SciENcv. OCG’s workshop will show you how to sign up and populate your ORCID ID and —the host of SciENcv—and how to use these tools effectively to minimize your work when creating your biosketch.
OCG Current & Pending Master List
NSF, NIH, and the Department of Defense (DoD) have recently clarified or updated current and pending (C&P) requirements in proposals. Sponsors have clarified that in addition to the C&P projects you are used to reporting, you may need to report other support not previously included. This might include:
- internal funding;
- unfunded collaborative projects;
- non-monetary support; and
- projects where you are paid outside the scope of your university work.Â
Details by federal sponsors are listed on see OCG’s Disclosing Other Support. This information is required and failing to report it may be seen as providing fraudulent information to sponsors.Â
OCG has created a “Current & Pending Master List” form in Excel that will allow you to update and maintain all of your C&P projects, and with a single click of a button, prepare your document in the required sponsor format. OCG’s workshop will walk you through the steps to edit and create your current and pending documents for federal sponsors.
