Longji CuiÌýwill be joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Materials Science and Engineering Program at University of Colorado Boulder in January 2020 as an assistant professor.
Cui received his PhD in mechanical engineering in 2018 from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. Since August 2018, he has served as Visiting Assistant Professor in CU Boulder’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been the Evans Attwell-Welch Fellow of Rice University and has performed postdoctoral research in Smalley-Curl Institute and Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rice.
Cui’s research lies at the intersection of thermal science and micro/nano-scale engineering. Two major focuses of his research include the development of ultrahigh precision thermal sensing and imaging techniques and novel scanning probe microscopy. Cui leverages these techniques to explore fundamental energy transport and conversion mechanisms in nanoscale thermal, electrical and optical devices.
His recent works on the development of pico-watt resolution thermal sensors and the study of heat transport and thermoelectricity in the atomic and molecular junction have been recognized by multiple high-impact journals. Cui is a recipient of the Robert M. Caddell Memorial Award, the Richard and Eleanor Towner Prize for Outstanding PhD Research at University of Michigan, and Material Research Society Graduate Student Gold Medal.
