William is from Northglenn, Colorado, and graduated with a double major in math and physics. He is a first-generation Hispanic student. His research journey began with the MACH Summer Undergraduate Research program where he studied Mercury's exosphere with Dr. Aimee Merkel and Dr. Dave Brain. He then researched neutral cold molecules at JILA with Dr. Heather Lewandowski. He will pursue his Ph.D. at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Fall of 2024 in the Department of Physics with the Dean of Science Fellowship.Ìý
While his research journey began in helio-physics, William is interested in applying AMO (atomic, molecular, optical) techniques used to create ultracold atoms to more complicated systems like polyatomic molecules. He joined Dr. Heather Lewandowski's group at JILA to study the interactions between ultracold rubidium atoms and cold OH molecules in a dual electromagnetic trap.Ìý
