Linguistics PhD student Jared Desjardins, an award-winning graduate teacher andÌýteacher trainer,Ìýreceived a Graduate Student, Professional Student, and Postdoctoral Scholar Development Grant to attend, and present at, the inÌýPittsburgh, Pennsylvania, November 13–17, 2019. This year’s conference theme was Connection: Closing the Distance, with a broad focus on how effective teaching and learning requires evidence-based intentionality within a network of strong relationships. WIth Dr. Mark Pleiss,ÌýLead Coordinator of CU's Graduate Teacher Program,ÌýJared presentedÌýresults from two large-scale surveys assessing the impact of the University of Colorado Center for Teaching and Learning’s video peer-observation protocols. Their findings illuminate the value of peer video consultations in teacher development, as well as the major impact that affective obstacles like anxiety and discomfort play in peer videotape observations and consultations more generally.
