Mission Statement

The Sustainable Buildings and Societies Laboratory (SBS Lab) aims to听become a world-class听research听补苍诲听education听center for听smart, sustainable and resilience cities. To achieve this vision,听we are actively听educating future technical leaders,听enhancing internal collaboration, elevating partnership with DOE national laboratories, engaging industrial partners, and expanding international collaboration network (5E). This allows us to听address big societal problems with m耻濒迟颈-蝉肠补濒别,听multi-disciplinary听research via multi-institute听collaborationsupported by multi-year multi-million听grants (5M).

Thanks to the interdisciplinary nature in our research, Dr. Zuo, the director of SBS Lab, is听associated with three听Interdisciplinary Research Themes (IRTs) at the College of Engieering & Applied Science, including Water Energy Nexus IRT,听Autonomous Systems IRT听补苍诲听Resilient Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity, as well as three Interdisciplinary Research Programs at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, including听,听,听补苍诲听. Dr. Zuo is also Affiliated Faculty at the Department of Mechanical Engineering 补苍诲听Community Engagement, Design and Research Center (CEDaR). In addition, he听holds a joint appointment at the 听and has collaborations with six DOE national labs. We have also contributed to many open source tools for the simulation of building and community systems.听听
