Hello Participants!

Our experiments involve recording electrical activity generated in your brain, typically while you read words on a computer screen and give responses to them. In order to record your brain's electrical activity, we will place a special cap with recording sensors on your head. We will also place small amounts of water-soluble gel on your scalp. Some gel may be visible in your hair after we are done; the gel washes out with water.

Please read these instructions as they are important for your participation.

Please contact us if you do not satisfy these criteria:
  • You are 18-35 yrs old
  • You are a native English speaker (English has been your primary language since before the age of 5).
  • You are right-handed and have never had your handedness "corrected"
  • You have normal or corrected-to-normal vision (glasses, contacts, surgery are all OK).
  • You do not have a history of neurological health issues, such as epilepsy or brain cancer.

If you do not meet these requirements, you will not be able to participate.

If possible, please follow these steps before coming to the lab. They are not required, but they will help us get the best possible data from your brain, and we will really appreciate it!!

  • Get a good night's sleep the night before participating.
  • Abstain from caffeinated beverages before the experiment.
  • Please shower the morning or evening before the experiment, using a mild shampoo and avoid using hair products (gel, hairspray, conditioner that stays in your hair, etc.).
