On-campus employment: Work hours during fall break
Work Hours When School is in Session
International students in F-1 or J-1 status can work on-campus for up to 20 hours a week while school is in session during the fall and spring semester.
- If a student has multiple on-campus jobs, the total hours worked for all jobs cannot exceed 20 hours a week while school is in session.
- It is the student’s responsibility to track their hours to make sure not to exceed 20 hours a week.
Work Hours During Official School Breaks
International students can work on-campus full-time (more than 20 hours) during official school breaks (fall break, winter break, spring break) with approval from the university in certain situations.
Exception Request Conditions
- If a student's employing department requests them to work more than 50 hours in a bi-weekly pay period during breaks for business or academic reasons, the student’s supervisor must complete the Exception Request for Student Employee Work Hours.
- Approval will not be granted based solely on the student’s desire to work additional hours.
- Contact Student Employment for more information.
Important Dates for Fall 2024
Fall Break: International students can work more than 20 hours per week starting on Sunday, November 24 through and including Saturday, November 30, 2024.
