Fall open enrollment: Register for an English language course elective
The International English Center, in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics, is offering LING 3210 English for Academic Purposes in Fall 2024. This 3-credit course is ideal for first, second, and third-year international undergraduate students who would like to improve their communication skills for effective academic interactions. The course satisfies elective credit for degree completion.
LING 3210 develops academic English skills for university-level work. Â鶹ÒùÔº sharpen English accuracy through academic reading, writing, speaking, and listening practice. They learn to express ideas more clearly, both orally and in writing, while engaging critically in class discussions, and giving presentations, including on a researched topic related to their major. Â鶹ÒùÔº improve grammatical accuracy, vocabulary development, and critical thinking.
- Â鶹ÒùÔº will engage with student peers in a small, friendly, interactive, discussion-based classroom environment and work to advance their communication skills in English.
- These courses can help support students’ success in their Fall 2024 and future coursework. The course will focus on building on students’ current knowledge, skills, and self-confidence.
- Improving English proficiency can be beneficial for future employment in both the US and globally since English is a global language for careers in business, politics, STEM, and many other fields.
- CU students need upper-division elective courses outside of their major(s). This LING course can apply toward non-major, upper-division elective credit hours.
- Any international or domestic undergraduate student who speaks English as an additional language is welcome to enroll. Â鶹ÒùÔº can self-enroll on the Buff Portal.
