Infrastructure and Sustainability (I&S) impacts everyone in the CU Boulder community, providing value to the campus from landscaping to major building renovation, all with the goal of fueling education and research. Much of our work includes daily operations that keep the campus machine humming, but the projects our teams tackle bring unique value to campus and are therefore worthy of annual recognition.

  • 2.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity produced by solar power 
  • 30% increase in vanpool ridership
  • 530,000 miles avoided being driven annually through CU vanpool program
  • 45 EV charging stations at 8 locations across campus
  • 7,390 gallons of gas avoided being used through EV charging stations
  • 1,443 gallons of gas avoided being used by CU’s electric fleet vehicles
  • 14 free electric bikes distributed to CU employees as part of a grant from the Colorado Energy Office
  • 1.3 million passengers transported on Buff Buses
  • 4 battery electric buses replaced 5 older diesel buses; 15% of the Buff Bus fleet is now electric
  • 14% less diesel fuel purchased with the addition of electric Buff Buses
  • 712 safety and compliance inspections conducted by Environmental Health and Safety
  • $100 million annual operating budget for which accounting provides financial support
  • 1,300 service calls closed by I&S IT
  • 34,890 work orders completed by Facilities Management
  • 2,231 tons of waste diverted from the landfill
  • 3 staff members served on the board of directors of Rocky Mountain APPA (RMA)
  • 1,780 building inspections performed
  • 19,370 rooms verified or updated
  • 1,605 trainings completed by I&S staff
