GEOL 1060 – 888R Global Change, an Earth Science Perspective
Dr. Lisa Barlow

General Education: Natural Science
Course Description:

Global Change is a valuable course for anyone interested in the world around them, how and why our natural environment changes, and what we, individually and collectively, can do to promote a promising future.

  • Addresses dynamic physical processes that operate on a global scale and places these within the framework of the planet's past, present and future.
  • Explores rates of change and interconnected processes among the four major components (spheres) of the Earth System: the atmosphere, hydrosphere/cryosphere, geosphere, and biosphere.
  • Focuses on fundamental processes of the atmosphere, the oceans, and their interactions. Incorporates the biosphere and geosphere where interactions with the atmosphere and oceans are critical.
  • Explores global impacts of collective human activity (Global Climate Change and climate variability), models used to predict future climate change, implications of changes as determined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Environmental Protection Agency
