Congratulations on considering the voluntary retirement incentive program! HR is here to support you as you navigate these uncharted waters.

Before you fill out the application, we want to explain a few program details:

  • If you apply to the voluntary retirement initiative program, it does not guarantee your application will be approved.
  • After you apply, your department will consider potential business justifications for approving or denying your VRIP application; this business justification will then be reviewed by campus executive leadership. You will receive notification of approval/denial by October 14.
  • If you initially apply and then you decide that you want to revoke your application before the September 30 application deadline, you can do so.
  • If the VRIP application is approved, you have 45 days from the date you receive the voluntary separation agreement to sign it. Once signed, you have another seven days to rescind your signature and not voluntarily retire from CU Boulder.
  • Further, once you receive an approved separation agreement, you have 45 days to sign; however, you can sign the agreement and return the agreement at any time during the 45 day period.
  •  After signing, you will have 7 days from the time you sign the agreement to rescind your decision.
  • The retirement incentive will be paid out on the final day of employment - either December 31, 2024 or May 31, 2025. Any eligible leave and vacation balances will be paid out on the last day of employment, either December 31 or May 31. HR to confirm leave balances.
  • Please explore your with Employee Services. If your retirement benefits are with CU Boulder, Employee Services will email you regarding your retirement and benefits eligibility after you apply. This does not mean you are approved for VRIP, just that you are eligible or ineligible for retirement. You may reach out to Employee Services at benefits@cu.edu if you have questions.
  • Once your retirement date is set and your full VRIP application is approved; subsequent retirement meetings will be scheduled three months before your retirement date with Employee Services.
  •  Please note, that appointments for individuals applying for the January 1 retirement date will take precedence over the June 1 retirement date. If your retirement benefits are with PERA, to confirm your eligibility and understand the steps to initiate the PERA  process and procedures for retirement.
