St. Patrick’s Day is a time of festivities and celebration. Please take a moment to review some important safety and enforcement tips.

Patrols

CU and Boulder Police both plan to step up enforcement during this time, including the number of officers on duty and frequency of patrols. Know the rules and party smart, whether you are on campus or around Boulder.

Citations

One of the most common offenses during St. Patrick’s Day weekend is minor in possession of alcohol and/or marijuana (MIP). You must be 21 to possess, consume or ingest alcohol or recreational marijuana. Please note that possession of marijuana on campus is prohibited for all students, regardless of age.

Stay safe

Watch out for one another and keep yourself safe. If you choose to drink…

  • Set a limit before you go out, and stick to it.
  • Eat food and drink water before, during and after drinking.
  • Avoid sharing drinks, vapes, cups and other utensils to help prevent the spread of germs and illnesses like .
  • Get home safe. Use CU NightRide for free, or call an Uber or Lyft. Â鶹ÒùÔº can also use RTD transit for free with your CU EcoPass.
  • Avoid mixing prescription and other drugs with alcohol. This is the most common cause of overdoses.
  • In an alcohol- or drug-related emergency, always call for help. Call 911 and stay with the person until help arrives.

Â鶹ÒùÔº who call for help in a drug- or alcohol-related emergency are covered by CU Boulder’s Amnesty Policy.

Be a good neighbor

House parties, even those that have been registered, can get out of hand quickly. Be a good neighbor and avoid citations by following these tips:

  • Keep noise down. Any noise heard from 100 feet away can result in an unreasonable noise ticket, which can cost up to $1,000 per person on the lease. If you choose to be outside, backyards are best for groups and outdoor activities, but keep the speakers inside.
    Ìý
  • Clean up. Kegs and solo cups can contribute to noise and trash. Keep kegs and alcoholic beverages inside the house. Pick up and dispose of trash properly in waste or recycling bins. When you leave, do so quietly and without open containers.
    Ìý
  • Keep each other healthy. Many campus events have been cancelled amid growing concerns about the COVID-19 virus. If you choose to gather with friends, be mindful and mitigate the spread of germs by cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, washing your hands thoroughly and frequently, giving people more space (6+ feet), limiting the number of people you invite or let into the house and stay home if you’re feeling unwell.
