Nate Jones is the Assistant Director for Advising and Professional Development and a lecturer in the Environmental Design Program (ENVD) at the University of Colorado Boulder. He also directs the ENVD Latin Honors Program.
Nate earned his doctorate in cultural anthropology at the City University of New York Graduate Center and currently practices design anthropology, focusing on pedagogical practices in architecture higher education. His current work is an ethnographic examination of architecture design-build studios in which he investigates the ethics and pedagogies implicit in “service learning” projects directed at Native American reservations.
His past research involved the politicization of ethnic identities in former Soviet Central Asia (Kazakhstan and Siberia) and the cultural processes behind artistic restorations of monumental architecture in Tajikistan. Nate has taught courses in cultural anthropology at the City University of New York, Bennington College, and CU Boulder and is a member of the Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA), the American Anthropological Association (AAA) and the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).
