This course focuses on American representations of human impacts on the environment. We consider literary engagements with such issues as: the (im)possibility of representing nature; the integration of the human and the natural; the end of the world and the future of nature; cultural difference and environmental justice; environmental disasters; technology, development, and sustainability. Â鶹ÒùÔº will both gain familiarity with an important archive of literary responses to environmental crises and will develop their own ability to respond to current environmental issues. Course texts will include short fiction, novels, non-fiction, poems, and films.</p> <p>Environmental Literature<br> ENGL-1230-001<br> MWF&nbsp;10:00 AM - 10:50 AM</p> <p><strong>Grading Basis:&nbsp;</strong>Letter Grade<br> <strong>Additional Information:</strong>Arts Sci Core Curr: Literature and the Arts<br> Arts Sci Gen Ed: Distribution-Arts Humanities<br> Departmental Category: General Literature and Language</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Mon, 23 Mar 2020 16:21:21 +0000 Anonymous 2407 at /english ENGL 1230: Environmental Literature (Fall 2019) /english/2019/02/20/engl-1230-environmental-literature-fall-2019 <span>ENGL 1230: Environmental Literature (Fall 2019)</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2019-02-20T13:39:50-07:00" title="Wednesday, February 20, 2019 - 13:39">Wed, 02/20/2019 - 13:39</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/english/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/photo-1470093851219-69951fcbb533.jpeg?h=e259f683&amp;itok=B6agNM6z" width="1200" height="600" alt="arctic fox in tundra"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-categories" itemprop="about"> <span class="visually-hidden">Categories:</span> <div class="ucb-article-category-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-folder-open"></i> </div> <a href="/english/taxonomy/term/79"> Courses </a> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/english/taxonomy/term/97" hreflang="en">ENGL 1230</a> <a href="/english/taxonomy/term/387" hreflang="en">Fall 2019</a> <a href="/english/taxonomy/term/429" hreflang="en">Featured Courses</a> <a href="/english/taxonomy/term/93" hreflang="en">General Literature &amp; Language</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/english/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/photo-1470093851219-69951fcbb533.jpeg?itok=v8MspiSS" width="1500" height="1000" alt="arctic fox in tundra"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>Introduces students to the tradition of nature writing dating from Romanticism through realist and experimental contemporary literary texts.
