Penina Axelrad is a distinguished professor in the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder. 

Rhonda Hoenigman is the associate dean for undergraduate education for the College of Engineering and Applied Science and a computer science senior instructor at CU Boulder. No one would ever guess her undergraduate degree is in journalism. 

We all know the drive to CU Boulder’s campus from the south: the beautiful view of the Flatirons as we’re driving up U.S. 36. This was the exact drive that made Rachel Cox realize that Boulder would be her home for a long time.

Professor Hope Michelsen joined the CU Boulder faculty just over a year and a half ago. She is an associate professor in the Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering. Her research focuses on soot from flames and atmosphere and their effect on the environment. 

Janet Tsai is an instructor who did her graduate work at CU Boulder while teaching. Her research emphasizes engineering education and project-based learning.

Kayla Sprenger became an assistant professor at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020. She obtained her PhD at the University of Washington and completed her postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 

Amy Javernick-Will’s journey to becoming an extraordinary, well-rounded researcher in civil engineering started with her combined interest in math, science, and international business throughout her early education. 

Wendy Young is a senior instructor and associate chair in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. In high school, she knew she wanted to become an engineer because she always enjoyed math and science courses. She also loved problem-solving, which is why she took the engineering path versus the scientist path.
